Slide Show

June 3, 2016

The pitter patter of little feet will be coming to an office or restaurant near you. No, we don’t mean someone is expecting a baby. We’re talking about slides and mules, those late 90’s throwbacks that make a rather annoying sound as our feet slap about when we walk.

This time around, there are lots of variations to the theme. From pancake flats to chunky block heels, there’s one thing to be sure of… they’re back!

Low heels and closed pointed toes make these mules almost seasonless:

Simple slip on slides in tumbled leather or metallics:

Ancient Greek Sandals, Everlane, Mansur Gavriel, Bottega Veneta

Wide crossed straps, embellishments and chunky soles take “shower shoes” to the next level.

Chunky heels and peep toes in colored suede, denim or floral prints modernize the mule and are the perfect warm weather option that’s not too bare:

If last year was about the Birkenstock, this summer will be all about the designer Dr. Scholl:

Whatever shape you choose, it’s time to slide into summer!

What Do You Call a Female Pope?

March 15, 2013

By now you’ve seen our post about the new Pope, Jorge Mario Bergoglio and our recommendations for his Papal footwear. But for a moment, let’s just imagine that the Catholic Church displayed some unique open-mindedness, and the new Pope is a woman!
Now we can really look at shoes, y’all!!

Chances are, she wants a little height. I mean, those flowing robes can swallow up a petite girl. Perhaps she might rock some Valentino stilettos, with very Papal gold studded heels.

We all know that Popes prefer Prada, so these high platform sandals with a cut out wedge could work well for summer, provided there is a pedicurist at the Vatican.

Snakeskin Loubies are a status symbol and our Pope-ess might love the elegance of this sky-high heeled, peep toe pumps with a hidden platform. Christian Loubitan’s signature red soles are said to be good for a women’s soul, so we say “hallelujah” for this choice!

Brian Atwood’s strappy zip front sandal could be a great way for the Popette to feel feminine and dare we say it, sexy. It’s the equivalent of wearing silk and lace lingerie under a conservative business suit… it’s a guilty pleasure only she knows about. Those vestments are pretty long, and hey, your secret is safe with us, girlfriend.

Sometimes a girl needs comfort, and these Tory Burch ballerinas are iconic these days. The gold logo on the front kind of resembles a cross, doesn’t it?

These shoe choices may not be needed now (although nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors) but it’s fun to dream. We are looking forward to the day that pink smoke blows from the Vatican chimneys, symbolizing the election of the first female Pope.

Walk a Mile in My Shoes

February 17, 2012

Sometimes, we all have to wear lots of different hats in our lives; mother, professional, chief cook and bottle washer…the list is endless.

Personally, I prefer to think of juggling life in terms of shoes rather than hats.  The past week has been filled with all kinds of interesting activities and below you will see the diversity of my days first hand.

Here is my story, told in footwear:

Saturday night: Fashion show in the tents at Lincoln Center, complete with a backstage interview for a website I contribute to.

Sky-high leopard booties worn with the requisite black clothing:

Sunday: Cycle for Survival, an indoor cycling relay event that raised $8 million for rare cancer research:

Cycling shoes that clip to the bike peddles:

Monday morning: Early a.m. 4 mile run on the treadmill before work.

Asics running shoes:

Typical workday: Editing runway film in the office.

Super high-heeled peep-toe booties with black tights

Catering gig: Baking up a storm in stocking feet, no shoes at all!

Wednesday: Rainy day in New York running to fashion week appointments:

Rubber Wellies with leg warmers and a sequined skirt:

I walk absolutely everywhere! Sometimes, the heels have to go into a bag for the commute.

These Converse Chuck’s are made for walking:

If you are wondering why my next few posts are so eclectic in nature, you might want to walk a mile in my equally eclectic selection of shoes. Coming soon: lots more food, fashion, fitness and family posts for your enjoyment. Have a great weekend!

Urban Gladiators

July 24, 2009

Shoes

From Prada to Payless, the gladiator sandal is the shoe of the season.
Inspired by Roman Gladiators, and interpreted by designers at all levels, this flat-heeled strappy shoe is showing up everywhere!

This trend started last year, and has spread to the masses, with children and grandmothers alike all sporting an iteration of the shoe.

When something peaks to this extreme, it begs the fashionista in us to ask: “What’s next?”

Tell us what you think the next big sandal trend will be by commenting below, or emailing us at indigojonesnyc@gmail.com
