Finger Licking Good

May 6, 2016

Last week we wrote about “pedicure pantyhose,” a new phenomenon from Japan.
Today, we bring you chicken flavored nail polish. Seriously.

Created by KFC Hong Kong, the edible nail polish comes in two iconic flavors; original, and hot and spicy. The polish is a collaboration with McCormick and Company who supply the secret spice mix to KFC.

The original flavor comes in a nude hue, infused with glittery flecks. The hot and spicy is a sparkly orange shade, reminiscent of hot sauce.

brit.coCurrently, the polish is only available at KFC stores in Hong Kong, but the company hopes to expand the distribution over the next 6 months.

To paraphrase Glamour.com, it kinda gives new meaning to the term “chicken fingers.”

Male Polish

January 19, 2015

First there was guy liner, and now there’s male polish.

Man Glaze

Yes, men are embracing grooming trends once traditionally considered women’s only territory, and they are loving it.

Not only are men getting mani-pedis at salons, but they are now skipping the buffing and going for full on nail color.

Celebrities are being seen around town sporting painted nails on hands and feet. Color choices tend to be darker and more drab than thier female counterparts with shades like black, olive green, grey and deep blue being popular. Names like “Fuggin Ugly,” and “Butt Taco,” help market the brand as anything but feminine or demure. The finishes are often matte, a trend gaining popularity for women as well.

It seems to be an important enough trend that cosmetic brands are creating lines just for guys.

Niche brands are emerging, such as Man Glaze polish, and Uslu Airlines, but mainstream players such as Essie and Orly have introduced Man-e-cure and Nails for Males respectively.

Neon and On and On

May 17, 2012

Neon is a big trend for spring/summer, but wearing it can pose a challenge. Here are a few tips to help you navigate through the bright colors of the season:

A little goes a long way:

Neon worn with neon is a bit much. Mix one great intensely colored piece with something more subtle.

The 80’s are over:

Black can be harsh with strong neon colors and takes us back to the 80’s. To look completely modern, mix neon with white, grey, beige or denim, for a less jarring effect. Stripes can also be a great foil for all the strong color.

Softer is easier:

Head to toe neon can be overwhelming, but soft whitened versions of the same color family can work really well together. Try a soft pink with a neon pink, or a pale green with an acid green.

A little dab will do you:

Just a touch of neon in an accessory can be an instant update without making the whole outfit loud. Look for neon shoes, belts or bags as a great way to lift any outfit.

Neon nail polish is a short term commitment. Try a little on your fingers or toes for a fun, temporary trial on the trend.
