Resorting To Ruffles

July 28, 2016

Designers have been showing their resort collections, offering a glimpse into what they might be offering for Spring 2017. We’ve mentioned before that the shirt is back in a major way, with crisp stripes and novel sleeve details adding interest to a classic category. For resort, we are seeing a return to tailored ruffles adorning band collared shirts.

Giambattista Valli adds rows of ruffles to his white shirt, topping a whimsical pineapple printed white denim skirt for his younger line, Giamba.

Karen Walker uses ruffles to soften the edges of her camo printed shirt with billowing sleeves:

Zimmermann adds cascades to a crisp striped shirt and pairs it with a lace trimmed skirt:

Cinq a Sept puts the ruffles on the V- neck sweater that matches back to the satin shirt underneath for a new twist on layering the classics:

Loafing Around

August 24, 2015

We love borrowing from the boys. Slouchy sweaters, crisp button downs, tailored blazers; we like taking the classics and adding a quirky twist to make it our own. Footwear is no exception. This fall, its time for our beloved oxfords to move over just a titch, and make room for the triumphant return of the loafer.

In recent seasons we have seen the rise of slipper shapes and slip on sneakers, but the newest iteration is actually based on the oldest one; the quintessential penny loafer. The back to school staple lives on in upscale skins and new colorations.

Menswear checks and colored leather loafers are a match made in sartorial heaven. A hint of patent, or a new twist on the metal horse bit modernizes the look. Gucci got in the game by reinventing their iconic loafer as a mule, lined in fur.

The Shirt Off Our Back

April 27, 2015

We love playing with the classics and finding new ways to style our  favorites. Reinventing the white shirt through dramatic proportions takes an old standby to a new level.

When one great shirt is not enough, try layering two! We love this crisp white tank over the superlong blue shirt.

Take a Shine to It

July 10, 2012

Metallic fabrics turned up on the runway this season, adding an unexpected sparkle to men’s fashion for Spring 2013.

Lanvin chose a classic platinum for their head to toe sportswear  looks.

Burberry took a shine to outerwear and shirts in colored metallic.

Neil Barrett paired a metallic leather jacket with easy khaki shorts.

Roberto Cavalli mixed matte and shine in monochromatic shades of lilac.

Cavalli also used silver pants as a foil to a classic white peacoat.

Futuristic fabrics add a modern and unexpected edge to familiar pieces. Are you ready to shine?
