Shakin’ the Bacon

April 16, 2012

Not to be outdone by Denny’s vile bacon milkshake, Burger King recently announced the debut of their new bacon sundae.
Only available in the Nashville location, the bacon sundae appears to be made of soft serve ice cream, and chocolate sauce and is sprinkled with bacon bits. Unlike it’s alleged inspiration, which featured artificial bacon flavored syrup; this is served with an actual strip of real bacon as a garnish.

No word yet on what it tastes like, or the nutritional info. If anyone out there is in Nashville and wants to give it a try, let us know what you think!

Where’s The Beef?

October 3, 2010

Next up on the apparent assault on our health and our waistlines, is Burger King’s new Pizza Burger. Debuting next month at the New York flagship Whopper Bar, this sandwich boasts 2520 calories, 3780 mgs. of salt, and 144 grams of fat.

Currently only available in New York (lucky us!) this  $13 concoction consists of 4 whopper sized burgers on a 9 ½ “ diameter bun. It is smothered in pepperoni, mozzarella and marinara sauce, and sliced into 6 wedges like a pizza.

Sound gross?

Not as gross as the sandwich recently introduced by the West Michigan Whitecaps, a minor league baseball team.

The Fifth Third Burger, made of over 2 pounds of beef, comes with chili and Fritos among other fixings and contains 4889 calories!

Think this one takes the cake? Not so fast…. Far and away, the winner of this pig out and gross out contest is the Craz –E – Burger, brought to you by Krispy Kreme.

Although it is only a mere 1500 calories per serving, this bacon cheeseburger sits in a buttered Krispy Crème donut!

Although this particular version is popularized by Food Network star Paula Deen (whose recipes generally begin with “you take a stick of buttah”); many others take credit for inventing the donut burger. Another sports team, the Gateway Grizzlies serve it at their ballpark and take the extra step of deep-frying it!!

Moving ahead, the Grizzlies now offer a burger, smothered in salsa, sour cream, chili and Fritos, which packs 4889 calories, and costs $20, cardiologist visit not included.

What’s next you ask? I am saving the very best one for another post!

Do You Want Fries With That?

July 16, 2010

We thought the KFC Double Down sandwich was as over the top as you could get.  Now we get word of 2 others that make it sound down right healthy!!!
Friendly’s introduced it’s towering concoction called the “Grilled Cheese BurgerMelt” that combines many a sinful sandwich treat in one giant artery clogging entrée.

The sandwich consists of a Black Angus beef burger, placed between 2 grilled (processed we’re sure) cheese sandwiches on white bread.

Compared to the Double Down, which KFC claims is only 540 calories, 32 grams of fat and 1,380 mg. of sodium, the new offering weighs in at a staggering 1,500 calories, 79 grams of fat and 2,090 mg. of sodium!!!

But don’t blame the American diet on all of this junk food nonsense.

Just across the pond in England, food giant Tesco introduced this whopper….

The lasagna sandwich!  The supermarket chain claims this “limited edition”(thank goodness!!!) carb- fest is a ‘healthy option” for a snack.

The “Lasandwich” touts bread stuffed with noodles and a meaty tomato sauce with creamy cheddar, ricotta and mayonnaise . The original nutritional information on the packet stated 87 calories and 4.1 grams of fat. (per bite?).

The reality, is that it contains 565 calories, and 26.9 grams of fat. One Tesco lasagna sandwich is the equivalent of two Mc Donald’s cheeseburgers, which add up to 595 calories and 24 grams of fat. Still a snack, compared to the Friendly’s offering we suppose, but a travesty just the same.

What’s next chicken fried pizza? (oops, I probably should have patented that one!)
