When adding small food items to a large pot of boiling water or broth, it is easy to get burned by the spattering liquid. Next time you need to add gnocchi, dumplings, potatoes, or anything else to boiling hot liquid, use a large slotted spoon or spatula to slowly lower the food into the pot. This way, you can add more at a time, and keep the backsplash at bay.
Once the items are done, remove them with the same slotted spoon, rather than pouring the pot and the water into a colander, damaging delicate foods.
