Kitchen Tips Tuesday: Speedy Pasta Cooking

Sometimes, waiting for a big pot of water to boil for pasta takes as long as making the whole dinner itself. If you are the impatient type, have no fear. Simply swap that huge pasta pot out for something a bit shallower, like a saute pan.

Heat the salted water in the pan, add the pasta, and stir. Because it is a smaller vessel, the water comes to a boil more quickly than a larger pot.

Long pastas, like spaghetti or fettuccini work especially well this way, as they can lay flat in the pan for cooking. Try to avoid putting crowding the pot…dumping a whole box of penne in will result in sticky pasta.
