Plaids are trending for Spring 2013, with a cleaned up yet “grungy” sensibility that hit the catwalks. Love the trend? Why wait? Here is some style inspiration that you can wear right now…

Anna Sui layered a plaid shirt over a printed top and a pleated denim skirt:

Try it for winter with addition of heavy tights and short lace up boots.

Marc by Marc Jacobs worked a plaid shirt dress with a contrasting checked shirt:

Winterize the look by layering a long sleeved Henley style t-shirt under the dress and ribbed tights.  Swap the printed wrapped waist for a rustic leather belt and a scarf wrapped neckline.

Dries Van Noten mixed contrasting plaids together in one ensemble for a modern take on grunge:

Try it with your way, by mixing a plaid shirt with a checked or plaid jacket or bottom. Keep the colors similar when mixing patterns, and play with scale so the look is unexpected, yet controlled.  Add a denim jacket or a chunky sweater for warmth.
